In 1998, The Saint Paul Foundation adopted a 10-year strategic grantmaking plan. The Foundation is committed to allocating substantial grantmaking resources from its unrestricted and field of interest funds to specific goals and strategies. This long-range grantmaking plan is designed to address Saint Paul and surrounding communities' critical issues.
At the center of the plan are four long-range goals:
- An anti-racist community
- Economic development for disadvantaged people and communities
- Strong families that provide healthy development for children and youth
- Quality education

Applicants are encouraged to review the Foundation's Grant Guidelines and Grant Application Packet prior to submission. You may obtain paper copies of these forms by calling 651.224.5463 or 800.875.6167 or e-mail inbox@saintpaulfoundation.org.
To see if a project fits the Foundation's guidelines and interests, applicants may submit a letter of inquiry describing the proposed project before preparing a full proposal. Your letter should address the information included in the Proposal Narrative Guidelines, which are part of the Grant Application Packet (PDF) or (Word version). Keep your letter length to only two to three pages with less detail than a full proposal.
Letters of inquiry and full proposals must be in writing and should be addressed to:
Grants Administrator The Saint Paul Foundation 55 Fifth Street East - Suite 600 Saint Paul, MN 55101-1797
- Proposals will not be returned to the applicant.
- Please submit one copy only.
- Do not send applications in binders or folders, or include videotapes or audiotapes.
The Foundation's acceptance for review, of either a letter of inquiry or a full proposal, does not assure that a grant will be awarded.
Grantmaking Meetings Grantmaking meetings are held in April, August and November/December. Generally, full proposals must be received approximately three and one-half months prior to the meeting date.
Applications for capital projects are only considered by the Board of Directors once a year, at the November grantmaking meeting. |
